I had the pleasure in October to speak with a class of Students at Kavanagh College, Dunedin.
I gave a presentation about adventure racing and talked to them about working towards a goal. My main focus was trying to encourage them to take all the opportunities that are out there and really work for what they want.
I also took a smaller session afterwards with those who were interested in navigation.
I think it was a good opportunity for students who had had some experience (some of them had participated in the Get2go regional challenge) to see what can be out there for them if they just look and drive themselves.
I really enjoyed speaking to them and would definitely like to repeat the experience in the future.
In June 2018 I was asked to go home and talk to the up and coming adventure racers at New Plymouth Boys' and Girls' high school about where adventure racing can lead after school and the wonderful places it can take you. I remember receiving similar talks at school from the likes of Hamish Fleming and found them inspirational. I can only hope to have been half as motivating to the next generation!
